I'm supposed to fly out of Fort Chipewyan in a couple hours, on the first leg of my journey home for the holidays. I've been watching the weather all day long and it was awesome, and perfect, and fine. Then at 4:00 they post a freaking freezing rain warning for Fort Chipewyan, which means the plane may not be able to come. I'll have a better handle on things in a few minutes, having already called McMurray Aviation to ask what the outlook was. They don't get their weather updates until 10 after the hour, so I'll call soon.
At least the winter road is open so, if I must, I can drive out. However, that means I'll have two vehicles parked at the airport, because I left my Tercel there last time I was out since I knew I'd need it tonight. The airport parking fees are ridiculously expensive so parking two vehicles there for a couple of weeks will not be pleasant for my wallet.
Also, the cats have to come out with me - they're going to a kennel in Fort McMurray while I'm gone, and 5 hours on the winter road is a long yucky drive for them stuck in a crate.
Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed that the plane can come...
ETA: Whew, the plane is still coming. Now I just have to hope my 10-year-old car will start up. It has warmed up considerably since last week, so the battery *shouldn't* be frozen... |
